J. girls bowling community.NJ.com Top 20 girls bowling rankingsThrough a fierce battle of three traditional games and two baker playoff rounds, one state elite reigned over the competition.The No. 4 ranked Indians won their fifth tournament of the season by defeating both No. 11 Burlington Township and No. 9 Brick Township in the baker playoff bracket. “Having the opportunity to go head-to-head with the best teams in the state and to come out on top is really big for our program,” Toms River South head coach Kevin Savini said. “It’s a team effort. We’ve really come together as team. Everyone knows their role and are confident in their abilities.” No. 6 Barnegat , Burlington Township , Toms River South and Brick Township made up the four teams that made it into the baker playoff bracket.“It’s hard to come out on top when you’re facing all these top teams,” Toms River South sophomore Christina Scibetta said. “You know the challenge you’re walking into. We found a way to come out on top.”Over the last week, White won the girls title at the New Jersey Singles Classic and placed third in the SCT individual competition.“I definitely feel good heading into the state tournament,” White said. “My spares have gotten better throughout the season and that’s really important when you’re striking as much.” Burlington Township earned the two-seed behind a season-best three-game set of 580 from sophomore Erin MendozaBrick Township tallied 907 pins in its third game to beat out Bergen Tech for the final spot in the baker playoff bracket. Toms River South soared to a 537-458 win over Burlington Township to advance to the finals, while Brick Township took down Barnegat, 512-461, in its semifinal.The Dragons shot 200 collectively in the first baker game of the finals to grab an early 24-pin edge over the Indians. Toms River South answered right back in the second game to take a 16-pin advantage heading into the last baker game.Scibetta delivered a perfect strike in her frame to set up Keenan to bring home the title in the final frame.Just as she did earlier this week to win the girls title at the Shore Conference Individual Tournament, Keenan shined under the pressure. The freshman racked up back-to-back strikes and then knocked down eight pins in her last roll to give Toms River South a 499-492 win over Brick Township. “I knew all my teammates were depending on me,” Keenan said. “Everything just clicked and we won. This was a big accomplishment for us.” Toms River South has won 11 of its last 13 dual matches.
