An excerpt from the book provided to SFGATE provided some insight into the lengths that McCarthy went to get into Trump's good graces — and in doing so, turning Greene from fringe Georgia candidate to far-right darling. As Marjorie Taylor Greene’s star grew in the Republican Party, House GOP aides reportedly expressed concern to McCarthy over Greene’s conspiracy theory mongering and, the Black Lives Matter movement and other issues. Even McCarthy, the authors said, “had condemned Greene’s offensive commentary" in the primary.

Burns and Martin write that Greene was a “wealthy gadfly" who was emblematic of a key Trump demographic that was all but ignored in the coverage of Trump’s core base: “affluent but socially alienated whites who had been radicalized on social media and embraced extreme and paranoid views on subjects that ranged from vaccine science to race and education.”
