If you plan on spending this Memorial Day weekend on the water, new boating rules are now in effect in New York state.
Rochester, N.Y. — I took a ride on the water Tuesday with Kenneth Dans, owner of Fleet Boat Club, who shared some important safety tips and information on the state's new boating law. Dens says a basic way boaters can stay safe on the water starts with wearing a life jacket .
While having fun is a common mindset, Dens reminds boaters and their guests to stay alert and avoid boating while intoxicated. New York State requires all operators of motorized boats and personal watercrafts to complete a boating safety course by 2025 to get a safety certificate.
