The boathouse and lift for fire boat 2 which was introduced last September is complete.
According to Mobile-Fire-Rescue, the boat is just shy of 43 feet in length, runs 40 miles an hour and pumps 45-hundred gallons per minute.
“It’s pretty exciting for the crews because it’s going to increase the longevity of the boat and make it to where maintenance is less cumbersome on us as a department because it keeps the elements off the vessel. It has quite a bit of capability. It pumps three times the rate of capacity of any land-based pumper that we have. It’s pretty powerful,” District Chief J.R. Browne said. And for the city of Mobile, it was a unique project to help with.
“It was a very unusual project. We don’t do a lot of stuff on the water. The permitting process was a little unusual. But once again, a lot of players in that. Working with the Army Corps of Engineers and the Coast Guard,” Capital Improvement Project Manager, David Cordingly said.“Call volume for the vessel is just not sufficient enough to have a full-time duty crew. So, what we do is we take engine two which is on broad street.
