WEIGH IN: What are your thoughts on the new bill?

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A new bill, which could restrict term limits for elected officials in Jacksonville, will go before the city council Monday. If the bill is approved, Jacksonville Councilmember Rory Diamond said it would put a strict two-term limit on constitutional officers. That includes the sheriff, council members, school board members and more.

The current Jacksonville law only prohibits more than two consecutive terms, meaning officials can technically run again as long as they take a four-year break. If it passes city council, voters will get a chance to vote on it in the August primary.
