New Balance's latest push into MLB features a mashup with Big League Chew that hit stores Friday.
Baseball and bubble gum seem to have a symbiotic relationship that symbolizes the childlike appeal of the sport.
Understanding that, New Balance is continuing its growing baseball presence by collaborating with Big League Chew, the iconic bubble gum company known for its shredded gum in foil pouches that has been a hit with kids for more than 40 years. New Balance is dropping baseball and softball cleats, training shoes, slides and t-shirts today that feature graphics and images of Big League Chew nostalgia. The colors are bright and bold, and Cleveland Indians star shortstop Francisco Lindor and fastpitch softball standout Sierra Romero are pitching the products upon their launch.
“I have a lot of fun playing baseball,” Lindor said in a statement. “The Big League Chew collection has that same energy.”The shoe company’s recent dive into MLB has made it a staple on the feet of several stars, including Lindor, Jose Altuve and Ronald Acuna Jr. In 2019, New Balance had 19% of the baseball cleat brand share in MLB, trailing juggernaut Nike and Adidas .
