Why Nevada's 15-month winning streak might be breaking soon
Nevada cannot stop setting records. The Silver State collected $1.3 billion in gambling revenue from casinos—the, a state record, according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board. May’s revenue was up 32.4% over May 2019 and was the highest revenue ever collected in May for the state.
“I wasn’t calling for $1.3 billion, but it wasn’t a surprise,” says Michael Lawton, a senior research analyst for the Nevada Gaming Control Board. “May is usually a pretty strong gaming revenue month.” The increase in gaming win was driven by The Las Vegas Strip—the state was up in total $70.2 million over May 2021, all of the growth coming from the tourist destination and Downtown Las Vegas as every other gambling jurisdiction in Clark County was down in May. With international travel back, Harry Reid International Airport recorded its third busiest month of all time in May 2022. “The line is international customers stay longer and spend more,” says Lawton.
