BREAKING: Neurotrauma consultant who cleared MiamiDolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa for gameplay fired, according to reports
A source within the NFL revealed the news to ESPN Saturday. Tagovailoa, who was hit in the back of his head during the game against the Buffalo Bills, was cleared to continue playing by the consultant. When the quarterback was tackled while playing against the Cincinnati Bengals, his fingers locked up, which a medical expert on the Prime Video broadcast said was consistent with a"neurological response to head trauma.
The source claimed that the consultant made"several mistakes" in evaluating Tagovailoa. At the time, NFL chief medical officer Allen Sills said that Tagovailoa not only underwent an evaluation during the Sunday game, but every day leading up to the game on Thursday.The Dolphins said Tagovailoa was"taken to a local hospital for further evaluation," where he was ultimately diagnosed with a concussion.
