Netflix is increasing prices for its ad-free, standard, and premium subscription plans in the US, Canada, Portugal, and Argentina. The move comes as the streaming giant continues to invest in content and seek to maintain its position in the competitive market.
Netflix has announced a price increase for its subscribers in the United States, Canada, Portugal, and Argentina. According to reports from The Verge, CNN, and AppleInsider.com, users of the streaming giant's ad-free plan will soon be charged $17.99 per month, up from the current price of $15.49. Subscribers who opt for the standard plan, which includes advertisements, will see their monthly fee rise to $7.99.
Premium subscribers, who enjoy 4K video quality, will face a $2 increase, with their monthly charge climbing to $24.99.This news comes as a letter sent by Netflix to its shareholders stated that the company will 'occasionally' request subscribers to 'pay a little more.' The letter read, 'As we continue to invest in programming and deliver more value for our members, we will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can re-invest to further improve Netflix. To that end, we are adjusting prices today across most plans in the US, Canada, Portugal and Argentina (which was already factored into the 2025 guidance we provided in October 2024).' Tuesday's announcement marks the second price hike since 2022, the last time standard subscription rates were increased. The letter also revealed that the ad-supported plan has been well-received, accounting for over half of new sign-ups in countries where it's available. Netflix has yet to specify the exact date when these price increases will take effect
