Israeli leader Netanyahu’s alliance with President Trump may help him in Tuesday’s election but is deepening a rift between Israeli and American Jews
JERUSALEM—Highways all over Israel are plastered these days with election billboards showing a grinning Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shaking hands with President Trump.
Mr. Netanyahu is looking to capitalize on this relationship ahead of the Sept. 17 vote. Moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem and backing Israeli sovereignty over the annexed Golan Heights have made Mr. Trump widely popular among Israeli Jews, with 79% in a recent survey by the American Jewish Committee approving of his handling of relations with Israel.
