Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised former President Donald Trump's leadership role in securing a ceasefire with Hamas and predicted the group's imminent downfall in Gaza. Netanyahu and Trump held a joint press conference at the White House, where they discussed the future of the ceasefire agreement, Iran's influence in the Middle East, and the resettlement of Gaza residents.

Israel i Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised former President Donald Trump 's leadership role in securing a ceasefire agreement with Hamas during the final days of the Biden administration. During a joint press conference with Trump at the White House on Tuesday, Netanyahu was asked who deserved more credit for the deal. 'I think President Trump had a great force and powerful leadership to this effort. I appreciate it,' Netanyahu responded. 'He sent a very good emissary.

He's helped a lot. And, you know, I'll just tell you, I'm happy that they're here. And I'm sure the president is happy that they're here. And I would think that's about enough.'The ceasefire, reached on January 15th, came just days before Biden left office and Trump took over. Credit for the agreement was claimed by both Biden and Trump. Biden touted the achievement in his farewell address, stating, 'After eight months of nonstop negotiation, my administration — by my administration — a cease-fire and hostage deal has been reached by Israel and Hamas, the elements of which I laid out in great detail in May of this year.' Trump, however, argued that the conflict would not have escalated to war if he was still in office, citing his previous administration's economic pressure on Iran, a key supporter of Hamas. 'Iran was in big trouble when I left. They were broke,' Trump said. 'They didn't have money for Hamas. They didn't have any money for Hezbollah. You had no problem. October 7th could have never happened when I left.' Netanyahu expressed his commitment to bringing home the remaining hostages held by Hamas, while also stating that 'Hamas is not going to be in Gaza much longer.' Trump echoed this sentiment, claiming that Gaza is too dangerous for anyone to return to. 'It's too dangerous for people. Nobody wants to be there,' he said. 'Warriors don't want to be there. Soldiers don't want to be there. How can you have people go back? You're saying go back into Gaza now? The same thing's going to happen. It'll only be death,' Trump added. Both leaders emphasized the importance of continued cooperation between Israel and the United States in achieving lasting peace in the region
