A trail blazer in the world of nerdcore music, Neon Nash is making big waves for women in this niche genre. BUST chatted with Neon Nash about her
“I love cosplaying, it’s my favorite hobby for sure. But I knew that I had to start pursuing my dream of being a singer if I wanted to be truly happy in life. So I did some soul searching and decided to give it a shot,” Nash said.
After the release of her first EP, Neon Nash began releasing a string of anime themed singles with titles mirroring their anime source material. Tracks like “Soul Eater”, “Sailor Moon” and “One Piece” gave her anime loving audience newfound love and appreciation for Nash as she donned a new cosplay each time a new song was released. Neon Nash shows no hesitation as she jumps headlong into two spaces historically dominated by men; rap music and nerd culture. In her music she expertly pairs rap and pop seamlessly, creating a dynamic sound with each track she releases. It’s evident her talent for songwriting is grand as she weaves clever anime references into her verses. “I think female nerdcore rappers and singers are really outnumbered,” Nash shared as she expressed her motivations for her music. “I just want girls to feel like they have a space where they can thrive loving anime and music too.” Since stepping into the music scene, Neon Nash has gone viral on Tiktok with a sped up version of her song “Sailor Moon” with over 100,000 videos made to her song. She has caught the attention of several leading brands in the nerdcore space having collaborated with and been featured on Viz Media’s TikTok as well as partnering with Fortnite. Being a cosplayer, Neon Nash also regularly attends and performs at anime conventions. Despite her recent debut to music, Neon Nash’s talent and magnetism has attracted some of the industry’s top producers. Having worked with big names such as Machine Gun Kelly and Honey Revenge, producer KJ Strock collaborated with Neon Nash on her single “Attack On B!tch” making it an instant hit. As an independent artist, Neon Nash has unparalleled drive to create and make her mark with her music, whether that be through pop, rap, or R&B. “I love making music so much, it’s definitely my calling,” Neon explains, “I’ve got big plans for what I want to make next and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.” It’s evident that Neon Nash brings a vivacious spirit and passion to anything she works on and will undoubtedly be a driving force in the fight for women in music, nerd culture and beyond.
