Every year, the event invites Alaskans and people from around the world to predict when the ice on the Tanana River will break up in the spring.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - An Alaskan tradition dating back more than a century is kicking off this month.
A tripod is set up on the frozen river at the community of Nenana attached to an onshore clock by a line.Whoever comes closest to predicting the exact time shares the ticket sales with the Nenana Ice Classic non-profit organization, which uses its share to benefit organizations around the Interior.
