A Northeast ISD teacher is behind bars after being accused of having an improper relationship with a 17-year-old student. Andrew McCown, 27, was arrested Tuesday by San Antonio police. McCown is an algebra teacher and football coach at Roosevelt High School on the city's Northeast Side , police said. San Antonio Police Department spokesperson Washington Moscoso said they learned about the alleged relationship in March after the teen's friends reported it to school officials.
Southside ISD teacher accused of improper relationship with 8th-grade student McCown was placed on leave while police completed their investigation and has not been on campus since March 8, according to a statement from NEISD. He was hired at Roosevelt last fall after clearing a background check earlier in 2023. Moscoso said police were able to interview the teen, but McCown was uncooperative.
