Rangers' Champions League play-off heartbreak showed that Michael Beale’s men aren't ready to be mingling with the continents best sides.
Despite waves of PSV attacks, Rangers held their Dutch hosts for 35 minutes before the goals started flying in, with Ismael Saibari grabbing a brace plus strikes from Luuk De Jong and Joey Veerman. Gers defender Connor Goldson capped off a disappointing performance with an own goal to make it five for Eredivisie outfit late on. And McCann told BBC Sportsound it could be a blessing in disguise despite it being a tough result to take.
Co-pundit Steven Thompson agreed that Rangers ultimately got what they deserved and will likely fare better down in Europe's second competition when asked his verdict on the Eindhoven showing. He said: "Rangers were playing against a better team, a far better team and ultimately they've paid the price.
"It was embarrassing a wee bit last season in the Champions League. Tonight, obviously, is not a great for one of our biggest clubs."
