Former Seattle Seahawks player Neiko Thorpe is rejoining the team as a defensive and special teams assistant coach.
The Seattle Seahawks coaching staff has undergone a slight reshuffling on the defensive and special teams front. Neiko Thorpe , a former cornerback and special teams standout during his time with the Seahawks, is returning to a coaching role. Thorpe previously served as the team's player engagement/football operations assistant and gained valuable coaching experience as a coaching intern in 2022 and a defensive assistant in 2023.
With Pete Carroll's departure, Thorpe will continue his coaching journey in 2025, assuming the roles of both defensive assistant and special teams assistant. Thorpe's storied career includes a national championship victory with Auburn in 2011 and a five-year stint with the Seahawks from 2016 to 2020. During his time with the team, he primarily excelled as a special teams gunner, although he also saw action as a cornerback when needed. The only departure from the Seahawks' defensive coaching staff this offseason is Nick Perry, who has returned to the collegiate ranks to serve as the defensive backs coach at the University of Arkansas. Perry spent his single season in Seattle as a defensive quality control coach. The Seahawks have also made key additions to their offensive coaching staff, including Klint Kubiak as offensive coordinator (hired January 26), John Benton as offensive line coach (hired February 3), and Andrew Janocko as quarterbacks coach (hired February 3).
