Residents near Petco Park are voicing concerns about the city and the Padres' use of The Park at the Park, alleging it has become a cash cow for both entities at the expense of the community.

Some of Petco Park ’s neighbors say the city and the team have not been trustworthy about the use of a public park outside the stadium. The Park at the Park (naming rights now sold to Gallagher Insurance) was a feature that then-Padres ownership promoted as “more than a ballpark.” That badly needed downtown park has now become a cash machine for the current owners and the city.
