A neighborhood in Riverton is breathing a sigh of relief now that a 5-year-old boy is recovering after being hit by a car while trying to catch the school bus.
It happened Monday on a street residents said they’ve been complaining to the city about for a long time.
They said people are speeding down the street every single day, and they want something done before something even worse happens.A surveillance video shows the 5-year-old boy starting to run across the street to catch the school bus just as a car comes from the opposite direction.The bus driver tried to warn the car driver by honking their horn, but it was too late. The car hit the boy.The boy was taken to the hospital and is reportedly now okay and back home resting.
According to a Riverton spokesperson, the driver of the car wasn’t cited because it appears to be a “pedestrian caused accident.” “We’re trying as a community to come together to figure out some solutions to help prevent something like this from happening again,” Raleigh said.He said people fly down the street in both directions regardless of the speed limit or bumps.Raleigh said parents come out every day to help their kids onto the bus, because of the amount of traffic and speeding cars.He said they’ve taken their concerns to the city, but haven’t heard much back.
