A neighbor living in the South Anchorage neighborhood where an officer-involved shooting occurred Saturday morning has shared video footage she captured of the blaze that followed.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Video footage from a woman living in the South Anchorage neighborhood where a man died in anAnchorage police said the suspect in the home died, but the man has not been publicly identified and the cause of death has not been determined.

Anchorage police said more information is expected at a follow-up news conference later this week as investigators review body-camera video, 911 calls and radio communications. According to Anchorage Police Chief Sean Case, officers responded to the home at 3:27 a.m. Saturday after multiple reports of gunfire. A neighbor captures a fire at a home in the 12,000 block of Shore Circle in South Anchorage on Saturday, March 28 following an officer-involved shooting.Case said Saturday that dispatch received about four calls reporting gunshots in the neighborhood and that responding officers believed they were being shot at. “The facts that I’m going to give you here today … are based on body worn cameras, they’re based on the 911 calls, and they’re based on the radio traffic,” Case said at a news conference in the hours after the incident. Case said a single officer fired three to four rounds and later saw the subject down inside the residence. “The subject did not survive the incident. We do not know the exact cause of death at this point in time,” Case said. The neighbor, Susan Sampson, who lives diagonally behind the suspect’s home at 12011 Shore Circle that burned during the APD standoff said officers woke her around 4:30 a.m. “The officers showed up and then secondarily told me to shelter in place, then I went up to my window and started filming what was going on,” Sampson said. “At that time, this two-story part of the building was on fire, and then eventually that spread.” Sampson said she did not hear gunfire because she was asleep before officers showed up at her front door. She said she has lived in the area for decades and that while the residence in question was known for frequent police interactions, the incident was unusual for the area. “It would be unexpected in this neighborhood as far as gunfire and then the massive fire that occurred was very frightening,” Sampson said. Anchorage Fire Department spokesperson Megan Peters said firefighters staged nearby until police said it was safe to approach. “The scene was hostile for a while, so we weren’t able to get in while it was really burning up, but we’re able to safely now do operations,” Peters said.“It is really challenging with the very cold temperatures that we’re facing. Our hoses can freeze up. Our heavy equipment can freeze up,” she said.‘Every fiber of me wishes I could change it all’: Veteran musher posts tribute to dog who died during Iditarod
