Kota Kinabalu: Joint operations involving multi-agencies are needed both on land and at sea to prevent criminal activities, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
He said Sabah’s long coastline which borders various countries present a challenge for the security forces to keep a check on cross-border criminal activities, including the smuggling of drugs, cigarettes and subsidised goods.“They also have to tackle the issue of foreign fishermen encroaching into Malaysian waters,” he said when launching Exercise Maritime Perkasa Timur 2/2023 by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency at Sabah Port, here, Monday.
“I hope integrated training for joint operations between different forces and national security agencies will continue to be enhanced. Hajiji said the State Government highly valued the efforts of the MMEA and was ready to collaborate on any issue making it a top priority to ensure the sovereignty and security of the country. He said the State Government also appreciated the sacrifices and hard work of MMEA officers who do not know the meaning of fatigue in carrying out their duties.
“It is also a test of the efficiency of the officers and members involved in planning, conducting exercises and future actual operations,” he said.
