The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a recall of nearly 99,000 Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUVs due to potentially faulty door handles that may unexpectedly open while driving. Water can seep into the door handle's circuit board, causing malfunctions and leading to the locks opening.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Nov. 1, and Volkswagen customer service is reachable at 1-800-893-5298.
