KUALA LUMPUR: Close to 50,000 self-employed workers nationwide have become Self-Employed Social Security Scheme active contributors as of Feb 28, says the Social Security Organisation (Socso).
As many as 48,998 self-employed workers have become active contributors of the scheme and of these contributors, 41,845 are from the passenger transport sector, the first sector required to contribute to the scheme.At the same time, 285 people had received benefits amounting to RM833,215 from the scheme, with the latest recipient being the widow of N. Subramanian, a rental car driver, who died in an accident in Temerloh, Pahang.
Meanwhile, the carnival saw the appointment of an ambassador for Portal Public Employment Services Socso, which is led by focal point graduates from 21 local universities. The aim would be to reduce the rate of prolonged unemployment among graduates, and hence, reduce the rate of unemployment in Malaysia, said Socso.
