The company says it has 16 reports of fires and 48 complaints, field reports and warranty claims due to the problem. It’s aware of one minor injury caused by the issue.
Chrysler, the maker of Ram trucks, is recalling 248,342 of its heavy-duty Ram trucks over an engine fire risk.
The trucks under recall are the Ram 2500 in model years 2020 to 2023, and the Ram 3500 in model years 2020-2022. The pressure build up in the transmission can cause transmission fluid to leak onto an ignition source in the engine compartment, potentially causing a fire, Chrysler said in aChrysler submitted to the NHTSA says 48,965 vehicles in the 3500 model and 199,377 vehicles in the 2500 model are affected.
Chrysler said it was working on a solution to the problem and plans to notify impacted Ram owners via mail on Dec. 30.
