A Nevada county mailed out 1.2 million ballots for its primary election but 1 in 5 were never delivered
. Although the report attributed the undeliverable ballots to outdated voter rolls, the problem alludes to ones other counties could face if they pursue mail-only voting in the November presidential election.
"These numbers show how vote by mail fails. New proponents of mail balloting don't often understand how it actually works," Public Interest Legal Foundation President J. Christian Adams said in a. "States like Oregon and Washington spent many years building their mail voting systems and are notably aggressive with voter list maintenance efforts. Pride in their own systems does not somehow transfer across state lines.
Oregon and Washington have held elections entirely by mail for years, but the June primary was Nevada's first election conducted fully through the mail because of concerns around the coronavirus pandemic.
