Horror hit Exquisite Corpses just unveiled a new game, coming 2027. With a new season coming 2027 and work underway on a live action movie adaptation, this critically acclaimed series is set to dominate pop culture.
Launching in 2025 and created by James Tynion IV and Michael Walsh, Exquisite Corpses tells the story of Halloween night in Oak Valley - a small town chosen as the staging ground for a battle royale between some of the greatest killers in the world. A critically celebrated comic series, Exquisitve Corpses is on the cusp of vastly expanding its universe with spin-off series and adaptations, with the new game just being the latest announcement for a franchise that's poised to take off like few others.
What Is Exquisite Corpses? The Horror Hit Coming for Pop Culture Exquisite Corpses is a horror series depicting all sides of a lethal contest - a battle royale between assassins, serial killers and mercenaries. Each killer is chosen by one of the Thirteen Families: an Illuminati-esque group who secretly run America, using the contest to decide the pecking order of their organization every five years.
The series is popular for its creative killers - from murderous mascot Rascal Randy to professional assassin Fox Mask Killer to gadget-obsessed G4M3R_KlD - but also for its compelling depiction of the civilians caught in the crossfire. While the killers themselves are popcorn fun, Exquisite Corpses has some genuine horror to it, following the innocent people caught in the middle of this conflict.
EMT Laura, social pariah 'Meth Head' Mike and scared kid Jason are confronted with true horror, as Halloween initially masks the slaughter going on around them. They may be good people, but the series have already confirmed not all of them are getting out alive.
The franchise's name refers to its unique writing style: while the world and its rules were defined by Tynion and Walsh, a larger 'Corpse Crew' of creatives were recruited to tell the story, deciding the fates of the series' killers and civilians - a professional take on the parlor game of the same name, where multiple people draw a picture or write a story while only seeing part of everyone else's efforts. Now, fans have the chance to live that process thanks to a new game that just launched on Kickstarter, and was fully funded in just over an hour.
Exquisite Corpses Unleashes Tabletop Card Game Running until June 15, the Exquisite Corpses: The Game Kickstarter is being run by publisher Tiny Onion. The new card game adaptation of the hit horror comic is for 4-12 players, placing them in the shoes of the Thirteen Families. Different 'killers' and 'event' cards change the circumstances of every game, meaning "no two games will ever play out the exact same way.
" Tiny Onion describes the new game, planned for an April 2027 release, as follows: Every five years on Halloween, the wealthiest families in America play a game. Twelve of the deadliest people in the world are dropped into a small town with just one goal: last killer standing wins. They call the game Exquisite Corpses.
Exquisite Corpses: The Game is a casual tabletop game perfect for fans of trading card classics like Magic: The Gathering and party experiences like Ultimate Werewolf. Needing only a deck of cards and some dice, a group of 4-12 players each pick their favorite killer and proceed to attack, bluff, and barter with their fellow killers until just one remains. Now you can bring the chaos to game night in your own town!
As with many Kickstarters, stretch goals have been offered as the project continues to attract backers, with exciting extras on offer including custom dice, game tokens and even a cameo appearance in season two of the comic. Exquisite Corpses is pretty much the perfect franchise to adapt into game form, given that both in-world and in reality, it was always designed as a game where multiple storytellers decide the outcome in concert.
Exquisite Corpses' Shared Universe Is Getting a LOT Bigger While the new Exquisite Corpses: The Game is the big news, it's only the beginning of where this franchise is heading next. The Kickstarter confirms that season two of the comic is coming 2027, and that killers Rascal Randy, Fox Mask Killer and Lone Gunman will be getting their own spinoff origin stories.
The first of these is Exquisite Corpses: Rascal Randy, coming July 8 from Tyler Boss and Dylan Burnett, with the summary as follows: THE COTTON-TAILED EXQUISITE CORPSES KILLER GETS A SPINOFF ORIGIN STORY. The sleepy little town of Aurora Springs, NY, has exactly one claim to fame: it’s the birthplace of Rascal Randy. Not the man in the suit - the man has never mattered.
He was no one until he put the mascot head on for the first time, until he felt the life leave someone’s body through the thickly furred gloves of the suit. No, Aurora Springs is the birthplace of Rascal Randy the rabbit, who, once upon a time, was poised to become the greatest animated character this country had ever seen - until greed and tragedy changed his trajectory forever.
Now, before the events of EXQUISITE CORPSES SEASON 1, witness the final murder spree of this iconic killer, as chaos hops into town with buckteeth bared and ears flopping... and the secret, sordid history of Rascal Randy is finally revealed. The thought and effort that has gone into Exquisite Corpses' background lore is already bearing fruit, with the franchise being robust enough that each of its killers has a potential story to tell, even outside the battle royale that brings them all together Even outside expanding the original series, Exquisite Corpses' first season is just one year in a contest going back centuries, giving the franchise immense room to grow, with any other year offering the chance to introduce twelve new killers and chart the internecine conflicts of the Thirteen Families themselves, as well as their influence over American politics and life. However, if comics and tabletop gaming aren't your thing, you're still likely to hear more about Exquisite Corpses soon, thanks to the fact that... The Exquisite Corpses Movie Is Coming Soon The Kickstarter confirms that the feature film adaptation of Exquisite Corpses is moving ahead with Lyrical Media, with Tynion as a producer and Walsh as an executive producer.
Little is known yet in regards to actors, but the movie will likely adapt the first season of the comic series, recreating the bombastic clashes between the roster of very different killers, from the insidious Nurse Pete to seductive serial killer Pretty Boy. Lyrical Media is also adapting Room Service - a short film crowdfunded by Tynion on Kickstarter, with its own prequel comic.
It's rare that a comic series succeeds so definitively so quickly, with Exquisite Corpses announcing a game, movie, several spin-off comics and a new season before the initial story has even reached its end. However, it's tribute to the creators' popularity among fans and the undeniably electric nature of their premise. 2027 is shaping up as the year of Exquisite Corpses, with a host of spin-off media including the successfully-backed new game - if you're not already onboard this horror success story, now might be a good time to get acquainted.
