LYNDHURST, Ohio - “I got a new smile! ” Nyla Martin-Hopper said she’s finally pain-free after getting her teeth repaired by a licensed dentist.
“I’m not in pain anymore. Last time I spoke with you, I was in quite a bit of pain, a lot of sensitivity due to the damage to my teeth,” Martin-Hopper said. In 2025, 19 News spoke with Martin-Hopper after she said she received dental work from Jazeman Lyons, the owner of the Smile Lounge in Shaker Heights. Court documents state Lyons told an investigator with the Ohio State Dental Board she received a certificate from Colombia.
Lyons was charged in connection with the work on Martin-Hopper and was sentenced to 180 days in the Cuyahoga County Jail with time served. He treated Martin-Hopper after seeing significant damage.
“When I saw her, all the bonding was chipped away with very massive cavity some we had to treat all the way to the nerve,” Thompson said. Thompson said the most shocking development now is new felony charges against Lyons in a separate case. She isUnlicensed dentist indicted for years of illegal practice.
“I think looking forward, you can see how many patients were affected by that. ”“She believes what she was doing was purely cosmetic. She did all these things not believing what she was doing was the unlicensed practice of dentistry. ”“I feel amazing, I can smile all the way and not crack a smile,” she said.
