NDRRMC: Nearly 200 areas under state of calamity due to Egay, Habagat

A total of 196 areas have now been placed under state of calamity due to the combined effects of Typhoon Egay and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Thursday.

The latest situational report of the NDRRMC showed that Ilocos Region had the most provinces, cities, and municipalities placed under state of calamity at 62.

Twenty-seven people have also reportedly died due to the weather disturbances—of which two had been confirmed, while the remaining 25 were still subject for validation, according to the NDRRMC.The effects of Egay and the Habagat had affected 2.9 million people or over 781,000 families in 4,748 barangays across the country.

The NDRRMC said that 55,584 houses were damaged—53,358 of which sustained partial damage, while 2,226 were totally damaged.
