On Saturday afternoon, North Carolina State players explained that they don’t mind being framed as the tournament‘s Cinderella team even if they don’t exactly buy into it.“If that’s what you want to call us, that’s cool,’’ center DJ Burns Jr. said. “But that’s not how we feel.’’”I know it’s unorthodox how they’ve gotten here, winning the ACC tournament that way, but you’re playing a team right now that is as confident as anybody we’ll play, including Houston,’’ Scheyer said.
Whatever exhaustion the Wolfpack was demonstrating, it disappeared at halftime as NC State outscored its rivals 55-37 in the second half, beating Duke for the second time in 17 days. Burns was named the Outstanding Player for the South Region, and if you haven’t caught his act, it’s certainly one of the most entertaining in the men’s tournament.Burns is listed at 6-9, 275, and his stocky build suggests that might come with one foot on the scale.
