Guard Jalen Green and forward Jae’Sean Tate were suspended for Sunday’s matinee against the Clippers, the NBA announced, for leaving the bench during aGuard Garrison Mathews and forward Tari Eason, who were ejected from that game following an altercation between Mathews and Kings guard Malik Monk, were fined for their roles in the incident.
Mathews was $35,000 for initiating the altercation and taunting Monk. Eason was fined $30,000 for escalating the altercation and making contact with an official, though the contact was considered inadvertent.On the play, Mathews fouled Monk while both were chasing an errant pass from Rockets guard Josh Christopher. During the dead ball, Monk slapped the ball out of Mathews’ hands and into the front rows at Golden 1 Center. Monk and Mathews squared off.
Though Rockets coach Stephen Silas and staff members pulled Mathews away, Tate and Green left the bench area. Though neither became involved in the confrontation, league rules prohibit players that are not in the game from getting on the court. Green, Eason and K.J. Martin are the only Rockets players to have played in every game. The Rockets were already likely to be shorthanded on Sunday with point guard Kevin Porter Jr. doubtful with a bruised left foot.
