The junior running back rushed for 172 yards and scored two touchdowns to rally the Cougars past Brownsville Veterans Memorial.
With New Braunfels Canyon down 18 points in the second half, junior running back Jackson Regan led the charge back as he scored two of the Cougars ' three straight touchdowns to rally past Brownsville Veterans Memorial 38-35 in the second round of the playoffs last week. Regan rushed for 172 yards and the two scores on 34 carries to send Canyon to the third round, a performance that earned him Express-News offensive player of the week honors Monday.
Regan beat out Holy Cross senior Issiah Rice, Judson senior Kayla King and Jay senior Jarrius Jackson in the weekly poll. Rice, the defensive player of the week, helped the Knights stay perfect in their quest for the TAPPS Division III state championship. He had two interceptions and four tackles as Holy Cross beat Fort Worth Lake Country 56-14 in the state quarterfinals.
