The Australian Defense Department said a Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft crashed on Melville Island, Sunday, Aug. 27, 2023 during Exercise Predators Run, which involves the militaries of the United States, Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines and East Timor.
The troubled aircraft, which has a history of deadly crashes, was grounded after an Osprey nearly went down last month in New Mexico,It was unclear how long the aircraft — which is used by the Navy, Marines and Air Force — would be out of service. Ospreys can take off and land like a helicopter and fly between destinations like a regular plane.
