The company's flagship portfolio, Nature Portfolio, encompasses prestigious journals such as Nature and a suite of Nature-branded publications dedicated to serving the scientific community. \Springer Nature is currently seeking a Deputy Editor to join its esteemed Nature Portfolio team. This is a full-time position based in either the New York or Berlin office, offering the opportunity to contribute to the success of a world-renowned scientific journal. The Deputy Editor will collaborate closely with the Chief Editor and current Deputy Editor to lead the journal's editorial board strategy, a critical component of the publication's overall success. \Key responsibilities of the Deputy Editor include identifying and recruiting potential Editorial Board Members, overseeing their training and engagement strategies, and collaborating with stakeholders to manage the journal's Collections program. The Deputy Editor will also provide support to the Chief Editor in journal development and management, while line-managing Associate/Senior Editors. The role involves a 10% workload of a Senior Editor, handling original research papers and actively participating in all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and peer review oversight. The ideal candidate will possess a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant biology discipline, with post-doctoral experience being advantageous. Previous experience coordinating peer review and making independent manuscript decisions within a world-class STM publishing company is essential. A genuine passion for scientific communication, promoting rigor and transparency in research reporting, and a strong desire to engage with scientists worldwide are crucial attributes for this position. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
