Bill Perkins Each autumn’s National Peanut Festival and Fair has, in recent tradition, kicked off on a Friday afternoon with the opening of the midway at the Festival fairgrounds. But this year’s 80th National Peanut Festival brings some changes, the most notable of which affect the Festival’s iconic parade.
“Moving the parade to the afternoon allows our 400-plus dedicated volunteers to enjoy the festivities with their families. In the past, having the parade on the last Saturday morning meant many couldn't attend due to commitments at the fairgrounds,” NPF officials wrote in a release. The change will also include enhanced security and safety, which should make the event more efficient and accessible.
