Live Free USA is targeting crime in Montgomery with a unique method.
“If we just focus on criminal justice, we just lock more people up,” said Dr. Antonio Cediel, a special advisor to the organization, “The U.S. has one of the highest incarceration rates in the world. If that was the solution, we’d be the most peaceful country in the world.”Local leaders have attempted to address the issue with minimal success.
“You can’t do CVI work without a level of empathy,” said McAllister, “Understanding what drives them, why they find themselves getting angry, and things of that nature.” “90% of shootings happen by adults because, unlike juveniles, they lack access to social services,” Dr. Cediel added.
