But when the work is done, it’s time to party in the most Mobile way possible with a parade) - There’s serious work being done inside of the Mobile Convention Center. The National Institute for Jail Operations is in town for their Southern Regional Conference. The parade is in honor of the National Institute for Jail Operations' Southern Regional Conference.

“Mobile is the birthplace of Mardi Gras so we’ll give them a parade. It kind of took off from there. Over time, we’ve done a lot of planning. We had several people that gave us donations, volunteered their time, and volunteered their items. The Conde Explorers gave us floats. Everybody kind of jumped in. So, we’re here,” Lt. Keenisha Wallace with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office said.

The conference helps Sheriff’s offices across the region learn how to run safe detention centers. It also provides valuable training for those who attend. “What we have to do in our profession is run a constitutionally safe facility. We want to make sure that we provide those that are in our facilities with the best care and custody that we can. And this is all about training,” NIJOExecutive Director Tate McCotter said.“We have amazing officers that do the very best that they can. To get this kind of love and appreciation shown by the city of Mobile, thank you, thank you, thank you,” McCotter said.
