In 1984, nine descendants of the original 110 slaves came together to register as the Africatown Direct Descendant of the Clotilda Inc.Patricia Frazier, a descendant of Kanko Lottie Dennison, said their legacy needs to be honored and carried on. ” People who know where they come from, their origins, the fact that you had ancestors that went through such great ordeals,” Frazier said. “I think it gives the average person an incentive to succeed in life.”
In celebration of the new documentary, multiple events are happening this weekend to give you an opportunity to honor those 110 lives.On July 6, events begin at 8 a.m., starting off with a public ceremony under the Africatown Bridge. Prior to the showing of the documentary, Perdido Queen Cruise is hosting a brunch at 10:30 a.m. with the private showing of the documentary at 5 p.m.16-year-old arrested in connection to deadly Prichard shootout
