The Akron Zoo will host the Cleveland National Eating Disorders Association walk on Oct. 5. AKRON, Ohio – The National Eating Disorders Association walk for the Cleveland area, which seeks to advance research and raise awareness about eating disorders, will hold its event on Oct. 5 at 9 a.m. at the Akron Zoo.
“By holding the walk in Akron we’re hoping to capitalize on the Cleveland area while also drawing people from the Akron and Columbus areas,” Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatric Psychologist Krista Caldwell told“We are very passionate about getting the word out in Akron for the first time. This is a chance for participants with lived experience and providers to get together, which is important since research and treatment for eating disorders is underfunded.
Approximately 28.8 million Americans will be affected by an eating disorder in their lifetime, according to the National Eating Disorders Association. The walks serve as social support opportunities for people in recovery and their families, while also raising awareness and funds, according to the association.
