She retires at 31 years old, after competing for 17 years since 2008.
The springboard specialist announced her retirement on heraccount, expressing how at 31 years old, it was as if she was approaching the “final stage of the dive”, after she began her diving journey at 11 years old.
“Today with a grateful and thankful heart, I bid farewell to the pool that’s been my sanctuary and stage for countless unforgettable moments,” Wendy said in her video. Despite stating that her retirement marked the start of a “new chapter”, the former three-time Olympic athlete has yet to decide on her future endeavours.“As I embark on this new journey, I carry memories of past triumphs and hopes for a new venture,” she added.
In the span of her career, she has bagged eight gold medals and seven silver medals in the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and the SEA Games altogether. She has also competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics , 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics ., together with her diving partner Nur Dhabitah Sabri was a subject of much speculation after the Thailand Swimming Association, was reportedly ready to feature eight events.
