In London, Big Ben struck once to mark the start of the moment of reflection, and again to mark its end.
People were invited to observe the one-minute silence privately at home, on their doorstep or at community events.A small crowd of people in the queue for the Queen’s lying in state stopped near London Bridge and bowed their heads to observe the national minute’s silence.Dozens of Metropolitan Police officers also assembled in silence beside mourners and later sang the national anthem.She recalled the late monarch’s ‘wonderful blue eyes’ adding: ‘I will always remember her smile.
