Three main U.S. stock benchmarks set sights on record-high closes
The Nasdaq Composite Index COMP, +0.75% traded above its record closing price of 8,164, set on May 3, joining the S&P 500 SPX, +0.77% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.67% which were also on pace to set records, if early gains hold in a holiday-shortened trading session Wednesday.
Lagarde is perceived to be a dove who will maintain Draghi's policy of aggressive monetary stimulus. President Donald Trump also nominated Christopher Waller, the research director at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, and Judy Shelton, the U.S. executive director for the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development, for influential posts on the Federal Reserve's Board of Governors. Both are seen as advocates for lower interest rates in the short term.
