NASCAR Chicago Street Race Day 1: The Loop 121 delayed due to lightning, thunderstorms
At about 4:47 p.m., Saturday a strong thunderstorm over Humboldt Park was visible on radar, moving east at 30 miles per hour. Forecasters said winds in excess of 40 miles per hour and pea-size hail were possible, noting outdoor objects could sustain minor damage.
Anyone outdoors was asked to consider seeking shelter inside as frequent lightning was occurring with the storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm, according to forecasters.
