The latest in moon-wear was displayed at the Johnson Space Center in Houston during an event hosted by Axiom Space, the Texas-based company contracted by NASA to build suits for Artemis, the successor to the Apollo moon program. NASA and the Canadian Space Agency are set to announce on April 3 the four astronauts chosen to fly as on Artemis II, another out-and-back mission planned for early next year.
NASA chief Bill Nelson says the new spacesuits "will open opportunities for more people to explore and conduct science on the moon than ever before".

NASA reveals new spacesuit for return trip to the moonNASA has revealed the latest spacesuit for the Artemis 3 mission to return to the moon later this decade. NASA/CSIRO Glen Nagle says “the new suits will have greater flexibility, much better viewing scope for the astronauts to see the landscape around them. Particularly, much easier use of their hands” “They’re also much lighter suits than we used in Apollo, here on earth the Apollo suits weighed around about 120kg each here on our planet’s gravity, on the moon only about 1/6th of that of course. On the moon you want something that’s easy, flexible to move in to keep the astronauts cool to keep them mobile”, Mr Nagle told Sky News Australia.
