NASA and SpaceX agree to study feasibility of awarding Elon Musk's company a contract to boost Hubble Space Telescope to a higher orbit, with a goal of extending its lifespan
Hubble Space Telescope has been a workhorse cosmic observatory since its launch in 1990, enabling important discoveries such as the age of the universe and the moons of Pluto.
He stressed that the agreement with SpaceX is only for a SpaceX-funded study, and does not represent agency plans to service the telescope later on. "This would certainly fit within the parameters we established for the Polaris programme," Isaacman said in response to a question about whether re-boosting Hubble could be the goal for a future Polaris mission.
