Nasa says it will be working to get the design into mass production to free up the USA’s limited supply of traditional ventilators so they may be used on patients with the most severe COVID-19 symptoms.
NASA engineers are presently seeking fast-track approval for VITAL’s use on the coronavirus frontline from the US Food and Drug Administration. The new device would not replace current hospital ventilators — which are built to last years and are able to handle a far wider range of medical issues, in contrast to the COVID-19 tailored VITAL, which has a use life of around three–four months.
