I had the opportunity to interview Pelosi about the book and its timely messages and compelling stories, as well as her advice for women leaders, the possibility of electing our first woman president, what she wants to be remembered for and more. Here are some highlights from our conversation.

In our conversation, she told me, “I always said to the members, ‘Our diversity is our strength, our unity is our power and the power to make a difference in people's lives.’ When I came to Congress, there were 23 women out of 435, 11 Republicans, 12 Democrats. We on our side just said, ‘Hey, I came here as somebody from the grassroots and the organizing and the political side, we're going to have to change that.’ We now have 94 women; we still want more.

When I ran for speaker, I said, ‘Don't vote for me because I'm a woman, and don't vote against me because I'm a woman.’ I think we should have Kamala because she's the best. I have confidence in her. I know that we all so proud to have a woman president at long last, but I think it's got to be, sheto be a woman, and that's a wonderful thing, but we've got to elect her because she's a person the country needs to take us into the future.
