Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of 'Today' show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, has been missing for more than a month.
“It shows a pattern very similar to this when you have droplets drop, and those droplets then spread because it’s from a particular height,” Jennifer Coffindaffer, a retired FBI special agent, said on her podcast“It just doesn’t make sense to me under the circumstances that Nancy would not have been gagged or her mouth otherwise covered to make sure that she doesn’t scream out or yell out,” she said.
“Would that stop the nose? No, not necessarily, but I think it would be rare.”for more than a month. Her disappearance prompted a multiagency search involving local law enforcement and the FBI. Nancy was last seen at her home in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood of Tucson,Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said at a news conference last month that there were clues at the crime scene indicating that she"did not leave on her own." He also said Guthrie needs daily medication, and it could be fatal if she does not take it every 24 hours. He told the BBC that he believes Guthrie was a victim of a targeted kidnapping.“No drops or anything like that. It’s very misty,” she said. Coffindaffer noted that she is not a blood spatter expert, but she drew upon her experience as an FBI agent. “That is what the blood spatter experts are going to have to look at, the scientists, that we can’t do," she said."There’s no one that’s just looking at these pictures that can certainly make a definitive statement as to whether this is just spatter from blood drops that are dropping or whether its actual spewing from the mouth.”, who is retired from the Shelby County Medical Examiner’s Office with more than 40 years of experience in bloodstain pattern analysis, previously told“It’s what we call a drip trail, which means it’s a continuous source of blood dripping from an object or from a person,” Sutton said. “I would advise the police that this is continuous enough to indicate a bleeding individual.” While officials have not identified what medication Nancy Guthrie takes daily, Sutton said someone on blood thinners “would bleed more profusely” than someone who is not. “We would take that into consideration as well, that if Ms. Guthrie has that kind of history, she might bleed more than, say, someone like myself who’s not on blood thinners from the same injury,” Sutton said. Sutton said a nose is “something that’s going to bleed pretty well, especially if you’re on blood thinners.”Timothy Courchaine, U.S. attorney for the District of Arizona, in a statement: "The United States Attorney’s Office, together with the FBI and every other law enforcement agency involved in finding Nancy, will go anywhere, do anything, and persevere always to find her.""We also know that she may be lost, she may already be gone. She may have already gone home to the Lord that she loves and is dancing in heaven with her mom and her dad, and with her beloved brother Pierce, and with our daddy. And if this is what is to be, then we will accept it. But we need to know where she is, we need her to come home."Anyone with information is asked to contact 1-800-CALL-FBI, 520-351-4900, 88-CRIME or visit tips.fbi.gov.
