Man released after questioning in Guthrie case, denies involvement as search enters 11th day. Follow live.
Federal and local investigators reported several developments on Wednesday following the release of doorbell footage showing a masked, armed person outside Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson home. FBI Director Kash Patel said the bureau is reviewing “persons of interest” but did not identify who may be under suspicion, noting authorities are working through a process of elimination.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed a person was detained during a traffic stop south of Tucson, near Rio Rico, and questioned overnight in connection with the case. Investigators also executed a search warrant at a property in Rio Rico, where a woman told CNN authorities were investigating her son‑in‑law. The man questioned, who identified himself to The New York Times only as Carlos, said he was released without charges and expressed shock at being linked to the disappearance. He told reporters he hoped investigators would find the real suspect and clear his name. Carlos later told KNXV he may have delivered a package to Guthrie’s home in the past but did not know her personally.
