Orlando Pirates are close to signing Namibian defender Riaan Welwin Hanamub, following his impressive performances in the Africa Cup of Nations. The deal is said to be almost finalized, with Pirates reaching an agreement with AmaZulu.

Hannamub had a good Africa Cup of Nations in January and his performances might have forced Pirates to sign him before the end of the season.“What I can tell you is that the deal to Pirates is as good as done,” the publication said. “Pirates have been been monitoring him and they have reached an agreement with AmaZulu because he has an option left on his contract. You can see this season that coach José plays Hotto at left-back and they are looking for someone who is also good in defence.“Expected Pirates to make the announcement at the end of the season but they have signed him. What is great is that he also plays with Hotto at his national team so they have a good understanding.
Last year, the Namibian defender expressed his desire to play for a bigger club. The former Chippa United also mentioned that he was happy at his current club Usuthu.“But if it doesn’t happen, AmaZulu is also a big brand and I’m really happy to be here and I’m always willing to give my best,” he said.
Riaan Hanamub has played 22 games so far for Usuthu, scoring once. He would get an opportunity to play against Orlando Pirates twice this month.UPDATE | Cape Town storms: Cape Point open, Lion’s Head trails closed
