KUALA LUMPUR: Another 1MDB-linked corruption case involving Datuk Seri Najib Razak relating to the alleged money laundering of RM27mil from SRC International Sdn Bhd coffers will commence on July 5 next year.
High Court judge Justice Mohamed Zaini Mazlan fixed July 5-8, July 12-15 and July 26-29,2021 for the hearing during case management here on Monday .Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission appeared for the prosecution while lawyer Nur Syahirah Hanapiah appeared for the former prime minister.
On Feb 3 last year, the Pekan MP claimed trial at the Sessions Court to three counts of money laundering for allegedly receiving money totalling RM27mil in three of his bank accounts.He was accused of committing the offences at AmIslamic Bank Berhad, Bangunan Ambank Group, No. 55, Jalan Raja Chulan, on July 8,2014.
The charge under Section 4 of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001 provides a fine of up to RM5mil or imprisonment not exceeding five years or both upon conviction.Another case of Najib’s involving SRC International will conclude on Tuesday , with High Court judge Justice Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali is expected to deliver his decision at 10am.
In this case, Najib was charged with three instances of criminal breach of trust , one charge of abuse of position and three charges of money laundering involving RM42mil from SRC International funds.
