Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has fiercely denied the prosecution's claims in the 1MDB trial, calling them 'baseless and absurd'. He claims he did not abuse his position for personal financial gain and accuses others of misappropriating 1MDB funds.
Datuk Seri Najib Razak , former prime minister of Malaysia , has debunked the prosecution's narrative in the RM2.28 billion 1 Malaysia Development Bhd ( 1MDB ) trial. Najib asserts that the prosecution's claims he abused his position to receive a total of US$20 million as kickbacks are baseless and absurd. He denies that he took any steps, including directing the 1MDB board of directors to participate in a joint venture with PetroSaudi International, to receive gratification.
Najib accuses fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho and others of amassing vast fortunes from funds misappropriated from 1MDB. He argues that it would be foolish to believe he would jeopardize his political career and reputation for the sake of receiving US$9,999,977 on two separate occasions
